“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”
― Hunter S. Thompson
I came into this world naked and as such I’d like to leave the same.
Anson Ross Thompson
Think about your life, your marriage, and your company and ask yourself are you living your life in a web of safety or are you pushing the limits every day? I’ve lived both lives. The life of waking up every day in the nice cocoon of normalcy, where there are no surprises, where you do what society expects you to do and it’s an average existence. I now live in free fall of life, where every day is an unexpected ride of random human interactions, daily surprises, and gross enjoyment of every moment.
Think about your day. Is it structured for normalcy or do you leave pockets for new experience. Most people get up, have the same routine, drive the same way to work, arrive at the same time, they are in a “pattern”. I’ve found that by breaking the patterns that we have, life begins to get a little more interesting.
Tomorrow, get up one hour earlier and see how your day changes. In two days, advise your staff or your co-workers you will be in 2 hours late and sleep in. Yes, sleep in and then starts your new routine. Routines are for people with no imagination, you have an imagination, use it. Break your routine.
Change your voice mail greeting. God knows it’s been the same for months or even years. Announce to the world you are taking opera lessons, give them a sample and then ask them to leave a message. Better yet, turn off your voice mail and see how you life improves.
Quit checking your damn email every 3 minutes. Turn your email OFF your phone and only check it in the morning and evening. I’m 3 weeks into this “routine” and it’s a life changer.
Hide your remote control for your TV for a week. I actually don’t have TV anymore, but watching my friends and family constantly look for that next big thing drives me freaking crazy. Eliminate the remote control from your life for one week and learn to watch every moment of the program you are watching, including the commercials.
Call someone from college you have not spoken to in years. How, get on Facebook and send a message asking for their phone number. Not on Facebook, get on Facebook; no matter your age the joy of reconnecting with others from the various seasons of your life is one of life’s greatest pleasures.
Lose weight. God knows you are a few pounds heavy! Decide to take the next two weeks and change your nutritional routine. Pick a program, any program. Weight watchers online are a great tool I’ve used many times when I pick up my extra 10. It will break your routine and if you can hang on for only two weeks, you clothes will fit differently and for most folks, this is the only confirmation you’ll need to continue your new life.
Today is the last day of the old you. If you love yourself, GREAT, don’t change a thing. If you are like most of the poor people I interact with on a daily basis, you are not happy, upset about your life, and need to make some changes. Only YOU can do this, but you have to start today.
When I die, I want to die naked. Free of all my worry, debts, bad relationships, hurt feelings and mental baggage. If I were to die today, I would die naked. How about you?
